Westler Foods Target Climate Change Levy |

In response to the imminent Climate Change Levy introduction Westler Foods has implemented a system to monitor the energy usage in one of their food processing plants. Armed with an understanding of their current energy usage the company will be in a position to start reducing their fuel costs and gain levy rebates. Initially, the voltage and currents on ten three phase supplies are being monitored with provision for expansion to cover site wide steam usage at a later date.The system, supplied by Tascomp and based on their Prodigy industrial automation software, continuously calculates and records the power used on each phase of each supply. Powerful chart facilities make it easy to see patterns and spot irregularities in power consumption. By recording the minimum, mean and maximum of each supply longer term changes can be clearly seen. Manually taken measurements from around the site are also being entered into the system with a view to automating them at a later date. Within weeks of installation the system has already given unexpected benefits by highlighting a problem with one of their main compressors.
